The Lioness in You, Mommy!

Since as long as I can remember, I've been captivated by lions and tigers. As a child, perhaps their ferocious external features attracted me. Robust, agile, and dominating, these large cats were simply captivating. Over time, I realized that my obsession with large cats, specifically the lion species was not coincidental. My studies over the years have revealed that lionesses are not only beautiful but arguably the most powerful member of the pride. While some will argue that females are the weaker sex, I would be the first to defend their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual strength (especially a mom).

Being the smaller of the species, the lioness is agile and faster than the male lion, which allows her to be an adept hunter and provider. The lioness is extremely coordinated and structured in her actions. She is loyal and works cooperatively with other female lions to care for her offspring (yep, aunts, and sisters pitch in to help raise cubs). The lioness embodies self-control and self-acceptance. She takes pride in loving her cubs and community. Providing a sense of security and comfort drives her actions. As a provider and nurturer, she serves as queen in her own right. Ah hah, and there you have it. This closer look revealed that the lioness (the female lion) reminded me of everything I desired to be as a woman and mother!

Growing confidently daily in my role as a lioness and proudly taking my position within my newly formed family, it has become even more evident that every mother is a lioness in her own right. And every lioness could benefit from a support group, a "pride", a sisterhood, and relationship building opportunities with other women to work cooperatively along this motherhood journey.

Mommies, dwelling amongst a pride in the wild, makes life easier for the lioness because members work together, thus keeping everyone healthier and safer. I believe that as mamas, each of us is on the horizon of tapping into the lioness within and understanding the benefits of a "pride". Lioness Horizon allows mommies to call on other women's strength as an assurance that no mom has to be alone. There is always a circle of sisterhood, a pride, to help you deal with the feelings, thoughts, and realities with motherhood's evolving role.
